Important: SocialGuard currently only works with Creator and Business type Instagram accounts. This is due to limitations in the Facebook API that we interact with. Please ensure your account is upgraded before you continue, this is free and easy to do: Facebook guide to upgrading your account type.
Before proceeding: Please make sure you are logged into your Admin account, otherwise, you will not be able to connect your IG accounts.
In short, a popup will appear asking you to log in with Facebook, this is a webpage provided by Facebook
Once you log in, Facebook delivers a randomly generated key to SocialGuard, we use this key to authenticate you with Facebook and allow our application to retrieve incoming comments
This key will allow us to only manage your Instagram comments and nothing else, the permissions are laid out during the permission process for you to confirm
To connect your Business or Creator accounts first sign into the dashboard, then click the Manage IG Accounts menu item: https://www.socialguard.co/dashboard/accounts
Next, click the Continue with Facebook:
A popup from Facebook will appear asking you to log in with Facebook, you can verify the security of the popup by examining the URL of the popup, which is delivered from facebook.com.
After logging in, you will need to select both the Instagram accounts you want to connect, as well as their associated Facebook Page.
The Facebook comments API relies on the Facebook Page to listen for incoming comments
You can learn more about this here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/webhooks/
Step 1: Connecting relevant Facebook Pages
Step 2: Connecting IG accounts
Next, we need to accept the permissions SocialGuard requests:
We request the following information:
"Access profile and posts from the Instagram Account connected to your Page"
This allows SocialGuard the ability to read the following information from your selected accounts:
The following details from posts that comments are made on
Post Image
Post Caption
IG account names
IG account followers
IG account bio
"Manage comments for the Instagram account connected to your Page"
This allows SocialGuard the ability to hide, show, delete or reply to comments made on your connected accounts
"Manage accounts, settings, and webhooks for a Page"
This allows us to enable the incoming listener for all comments on the account, allowing SocialGuard the ability to store the comments into the platform, enabling further moderation
"Show a list of Pages you manage"
This allows SocialGuard the ability to retrieve the account IDs you've selected during the Facebook Login connection
After submitting the Facebook Login popup, you should receive a notification that you have linked SocialGuard to Facebook, please click OK to continue.
Next, you should see a list of the accounts you previously authorized, please click on each account you want to connect to SocialGuard, afterwards click the Submit button.
That's it, you're all done. Your accounts will now be monitored for all incoming comments.
If you would like to stop monitoring at any time, you can uncheck the Protection Enabled button on the relevant account:
You can disconnect Social Guard from your Facebook account at any time by clicking the Disconnect and Remove all Accounts button found on https://www.socialguard.co/dashboard/accounts
